Development of bulk trade

flamands_mielles_sn11

The priority development of the port of Cherbourg considered by Cherbourg chamber of Commerce and Industry and Louis Dreyfus Armateurs is based on the transhipment of bulk cargo.

This was the master piece included in the proposal made to Ports of Normandy Authority to answer the call for proposals for the concession of the port of Cherbourg. This was retained as the only strategy that would allow Port of Cherbourg to reach a level of activity, basis of a sound financial position.

The numerous difficulties of the previous years have proven that the hinterland of Cherbourg can not generate enough business. The only solution is to make the Port of Cherbourg a new logistic point based on transhipment operations.
The project includes the utilization of the 40 hectare area adjacent to the quay des Flamands including possible transhipment alongside quay for Panamax and offshore operations with floating cranes for ships with a draft that is too important to come alongside the quay (Capesize).

The first trades cover transhipment of coal. This activity will be located on the northern part of Les Flamands area..
