New freight line between Cherbourg, Channel Islands and Southampton

From March 12, 2010, the society Huelin Renouf, from Jersey, is going to operate a line of transport of containerized goods to the Channel Islands : Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney, then to Southampton. This service is operated by the “Huelin Endeavour”.

The Coal Terminal

The coal terminal is only one part of the bulk terminal. It is located in the northern part of Les Flamands area and covers 6.5 hectares (16.5 acres).The maximum storage capacity is 240.000 tonnes.

Of course it will meet all the new regulations and quality system that are already in place on the terminals operated by OVET. This will give high level of guaranty for the environment and the welfare of people.

  • Building of a unloading platform on the quay to avoid any disposal of coal into the sea and any spreading of coal through the terminal and on the port roads ;
  • System to control , collect and recycle the water used for watering the coal and the streaming water ;
  • Maximum height of the storage to 8 meters
  • If necessary, stockpiles are covered with a protective layer made of cellulose as a precautionary measure in case of high winds.
  • Control of the traffic between the terminal and the other parts of the port. A 2 metre high wall will be built on the south of the terminal. There will be only one access point for vehicles with a washing point on the way out.
  • Controls of unlikely dust propagation outside the terminal will be made by the independent association Air.C.O.M.
  • Operations will be organized taking into account the requirements of ISO 9001(quality) and ISO 14000 (environment) certificates.
