Call of Queen Victoria

The ship elevator

With the ship elevator, Cherbourg as a quite unique equipment  for  ship repair and maintenance work.
Its specifications make the ship lift particularly adapted for fast catamarans, which require maintenance or repair work time to be reduced to a minimum.Maximum sizes of ships that can be lifted: Beam 32m, Draft: 4.

  • Length of the lifting platform : 90 m
  • Lifting capacity : 4500 tonnes
  • Maximum load : 50 tonnes per linear meter on the central axle of the lifting platform
  • The lifting platform is operated through 14 Syncrolift® winches
  • Lifting speed :17 cm/minute
  • Transfer to the maintenance area: with trolleys on rails, 6 lines of rails available to accommodate different types of ships or loads.

Dry Dock

Napoleon dry dock is located in the outer port of Cherbourg, close to the fishing port. Its specifications make  it  particularly well suited for  maintenance or repair work on  fishing boats:

  • Maximum Length : 70 m
  • Maximum beam : 14m
